Overview

Visit Teide National Park, a one-of-a-kind, magical place boasting lush pine forests, stunning endemic flora, lunar landscapes and otherworldly rock formations. Mount Teide is the highest mountain in Spain and the second highest volcano in Europe. It towers majestically over the island of Tenerife with its 3,718 meters of otherworldly lava formations. This rocky giant stands on a 5000-metre-deep ocean floor, stretches up to the heavens and lives to the beat of its magmatic heart. There’s no better way to experience the four elements at once than Mount Teide, a true wonder of nature.

  • El Pino Gordo

    In the National Park of the Corona Forestal there is the so-called "Pino Gordo". Its name is no coincidence: the trunk is more than three metres wide, making it a total of ten metres in circumference. Many people try to wrap their outstretched arms around it, which requires a good number of people, but the photo of the feat is always a nice souvenir. Pino Gordo is a centuries-old Canary Island pine tree that witnessed the emergence of the island's new volcanoes. It rises 45 metres from the ground, so there are few trees in the whole of Europe that can boast its height.

    The viewpoint of the Narices del Teide is another viewpoint that you should visit if you travel to Tenerife. It is known as Narices del Teide because of the two mouths through which the eruption took place in 1798, leaving a completely burnt landscape and, now, a lava flow that reaches as far as Chavao. This place has become one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the Teide National Park, as it offers impressive views of the Pico Viejo volcano. It is also a good place to enjoy a sunrise or sunset, especially during the autumn and winter months.

    The great multicoloured plain that is the Minas de San José is characterised by its golden gravel, the twisted shapes of its ochre-coloured rocks and the presence of enormous, long volcanic lava flows. From here, you can admire the impressive beauty of the Alto de Guajara, which at 2,715 meters is the highest point in Las Cañadas del Teide. The peculiar extraterrestrial appearance of these ancient mines of volcanic materials attracts countless tourists scientists and artists eager to enjoy their magical surroundings.The characteristics of the terrain are so otherworldly that NASA itself has even tested the operation of some of its robots here before sending them on space missions to the moon and even Mars. The San José Mines were the setting for such legendary productions as A Million Years Ago, the film that brought Raquel Welch to fame in 1966 and narrates her confrontations with some unlikely dinosaurs, and the more recent Fury of the Titans, from 2012.

    The Los Poleos viewpoint is located on the TF 38 road from Chio to Pico del Teide and is just below the Pinar Chio recreational area. Here you can see how nature is gradually regaining its space. Trees that have found their way in grow everywhere and sporadically in the lava fields. From the Mirador de Los Poleos you have an incredible view over a large lava field and a pine forest and the sea of clouds with the beautiful island of La Gomera behind the ocean. On clear days you can see the islands of El Hierro and La Palma. At this impressive viewpoint you can see a fallen pine tree with its roots visibly pointing upwards. If you continue further along the road, you will pass many pine trees, which give the Teide National Park a completely different image.

Lots of time IN theMt Teide National Park

Many tours include a visit to Mount Teide National Park but in reality spend most time in villages away from the park. This tour focuses solely on the National Park and is excellent providing plenty of time to explore. Our guide and driver were terrific!
