Overview

Join us for one of the most popular local cycling tours in Hida-Furukawa and feel locals' daily lives in the Japanese countryside! Your professional English-speaking guide will provide you with the insight of the history and culture in Hida region. The cycling course will be mostly flat, and you can go on the slow pace. Also, you will have a chance to talk to locals and to have a relaxing time in the natural beauty. This tour will take you to some exclusive places where you can experience the daily activities as well as local culture handed down for generations in Hida-Takayama.

Itinerary

This tour will depart from the meetup location at the Furukawa office in Hida at 10:15 am for morning depature. You will meet with your friendly and informative guide and start the 2.5 hour cycling tour to enjoy not only the beautiful scenery of Japanese countryside, but also locals' way of living in Hida region. Ride through a peaceful town in Hida, a farming village and the beautiful Satoyama scenery will gradually come in sight. See local vegetables lining up in a market, huge old folk houses scattered, rice fields spreading all around surrounded by mountains. It is such as an well-balanced tour of exercise and relaxation for you and your family; feel the daily lives of locals while biking throughout a 12km route.

Learning about local cultures with Nanami

Lovely relaxed morning ride through Hida Furakawaregion learning about local farming, cultures and wildlife. Our guide Nanami was so engaging and passionate in sharing knowledge about local plants and wildlife. She was super organised in showing picture of the landscape in both current and winter seasons that really helped us appreciate the impact of the winter snow in this region. We were well away from the rest of the tourist crowd and had plenty of time to chat and ask questions as well as enjoy a tea break stop. Thankyou Namani.

A hidden gem and great way to experience Hida Furokawa

A professional set up with great customer service. Nanami was a really super guide (very cheerful and friendly), even in the pouring rain! We saw plenty of countryside and learned lots. They provided full waterproofs for anyone who needed. They also have some beautiful accommodation - would be really wonderful to stay in Hida Furokawa for at least one night - so beautiful and very peaceful - hardly any tourists which is lovely after the busyness of Takayama. Would highly recommend.

The cycling is gentle and merely a great excuse to spend a few very pleasant, informative and educational hours exploring around the area of this fascinating, understated town, buying local food, meeting local people and generally learning about Hida life.
