Overview

The tour encompasses a visit to the infamous bridge on the River Kwai, constructed by Allied prisoners of war (POWs) during World War II. It also includes a stop at a war cemetery where approximately 9,000 Allied soldiers, who lost their lives while working on the bridge and the notorious "Death Railway," are laid to rest. At the JEATH Museum, guests will encounter a replica of a Japanese POW camp, followed by an exhilarating train ride along a breathtaking section of the "Death Railway." A buffet lunch will be served upon arrival at Wang Po station, located near the Burmese border.     The museum is divided into two sections, one depicting the construction of the Death Railway which is meant to recreate the quarters used by Allied POWs, and the other consisting of reconstructed bamboo huts containing such items as paintings, drawings, and photos of and by former prisoners, weapons, tools, and maps.

    The Burma Railway, also known as the Death Railway, the Siam–Burma Railway, the Thai–Burma Railway, and similar names, was a 415-kilometer (258 mi) railway between Ban Pong, Thailand, and Thanbyuzayat, Burma, built by the Empire of Japan in 1943 to support its forces in the Burma campaign of World War II. This railway completed the rail link between Bangkok, Thailand, and Rangoon, Burma (now Yangon, Myanmar). The name used by the Japanese Government is Thai–Men-Rensetsu-Tetsudou (泰緬連接鉄道), which means Thailand-Myanmar-Link-Railway.

It received the name Death Railway due to a large amount of prisoners that died during the construction of the bridge. Now many people visit the bridge to learn about the history as well as view the incredible structure which is built into the side of a cliff, right next to the powerful Kwai Noi River.

Just a good day. The trip notes were optimistic, a 13 hour tour became 10 hours, maybe we missed the railway centre? It was still a superb day.
