Overview

This guided adventure will allow us to connect with the natural meeting between the warm waters of the bay and the lush jungle. Most of the hike is in the shade of the jungle canopy. The scenic bus ride along the bay is about 30 minutes each way. The hike is about 1.5 hours each way but we have the additional time we will spend at the most beautiful beaches on the bay of Playa Colomitas, Playa Caballo, and Playa Madagascar where swimming is very popular. Our final destination is Playa Las Animas for lunch. All are welcome to choose their own restaurant or join the guide at his favorite. We should have at least 2 to 3 hours to spend for lunch and enjoy the beach in Las Animas before we return by boat to Boca and the bus ride to PV. (Not included is any food and beverages, 10 pesos each way bus ride, and return boat ride approx. 200 pesos. ) Hiking back to Boca is an option for you doubling your hiking experience. Included bonus Tequila Tasting Experience & Mexican Opal Experience.

Itinerary

  • Conchas Chinas (Pass By)

    View the upscale neighborhood as we travel through on the two lane highway note all the beach front villas and resorts among the jungle canopy.

  • Mismaloya (Pass By)

    Mismaloya was once a sleeping fishing village and then Hollywood came to film the classic picture "Night of the Iguna." We will catch a glimpse of the bay and larger hotels on the bluff and beach as we pass through on the main road.

  • Los Arcos (Pass By)

    View the large granite islands making up the National Marine Sanctuary home to millions of birds and fish.

  • Boca de Tomatlan

    We will depart the bus in Boca and walk through the town and then cross the foot bridge over the river to start our hike out of the cove and along the bay to Las Animas.

  • Playa Colomitos

    This beach is considered by most to be the most beautiful in the area. We will spend time to swim in the emerald green waters or the cove.

  • Playa Las Animas

    We will spend at least 2 hours here for lunch and enjoying the warm waters of the beach. At least 10 restaurants are located on the beach and several activities are available to rent such as boogie boards, sail boards, bananna boat, and parachute rides.

Not a walk in the park but a great walk none the less.

This is a great hike and a great way to see a piece of Mexico's west coast. Be advised that the hike is challenging. Some areas are steep and the surface of the trail is often littered with rocks, trip hazards, and washed out surfaces. If you have ever done the west coast trail on Vancouver Island you would be familiar with what this trail is like. It's short, under 5 km one way and the beaches are spectacular. The restaurants at Playa Las Animas had delicious food. I walked this in a pair of water shoes that have a fairly robust soul. Gear I took along, was a towel, bug spray and water. Take a few extra pesos for 70 peso coconut drink at a stand on Playa Caballo. Have fun and say hi to Roco for me.

Incredible hiking at Boca the Tomatlan

This hike has spectacular views of the local hiden quite beaches. The color blue and green clear water is impressive. I saw a variety of birds, it’s a real hike for the ones who love hiking! Abraham, the guide is biologist, knows everything about nature and wild animals and insect. He is very interesting and adapts to your level. I loved this incredible hike at Boca!

I had an incredible hike at Boca the Tomatlan visiting 4 magnificent beaches. I went alone and had my private guide Abraham, a passionated botanical that shared everything he knew about nature. We saw a lot of birds. If you love nature, hiking and want to experience a local tour not too touristic and crowded, I recommend this day tour! The guide Abraham adapts to your level, is positive and so sociable. I was impressed by that place!
