Overview

Mary Queen of Scots, Hilary Clinton and Alice in Wonderland - just a few of the people who have visited St Andrews to extraordinary consequences. Follow in their footsteps as I take you round some of the town's best known sites and tell you some of the lesser known stories. You'll find out why Prince William was almost turned down for his first flat, where the last relics of St Andrew can be found and why the people of St Andrews spent £5,000 on a statue of a cat. Along the way, you'll get a sense of what makes this sleepy seaside town tick and why there is something rotten at its core. This audio tour takes you on 3.5 km walk around the highlights of the town. It takes just over an hour without stopping but you can pause the tour whenever you choose. The tour is ready whenever you are and the audio plays automatically at exactly the right time and place using your smartphone's GPS and the VoiceMap mobile app, which also works offline.

Itinerary

  • St Andrews Cathedral (Pass By)

    St Andrews still attracts visitors from far and wide but they no longer come for religious relics. Now they come to worship at the home of golf. In the cathedral we can see these two aspects brought together.

  • St Andrews Castle (Pass By)

    St Andrew's Castle looks over a little shoreline called Castle Sands and borders the North Sea. The Castle housed well off clerics while St Andrews served as the religious focal point of Scotland amid the years prior to the Protestant Reformation. The best enduring carved pieces from the castle are shown in the visitor centre, which also has a shop.

  • Hamish McHamish Statue (Pass By)

    Hamish the cat was a popular figure around town – so much so that a statue was erected in 2014, after they had raised £5,000. Sadly, that same year Hamish passed away.

Excellent tour filled with a personal touch. Our guide Sam was wonderful, answering all of our questions and curiosities of the area. He have great insight and historical info. The food pairings were delicious, even the haggis! Would highly recommend this tour.
