Overview

The beauty of this region is unique. The Canyons of Cambará do Sul are an unmissable destination! Located on the border between the state of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, in the Campos de Cima da Serra region, the canyons are uniquely beautiful, with walls that reach 900m in height. From there you can see the Atlantic Ocean, some cities on the north coast of RS and also SC. The basaltic formations give the exact dimension of all geological events that took place millions of years ago. The hikes we will do will be at a leisurely pace, the trails have a low degree of difficulty and the landscapes are stunning: waterfalls, rivers, the unevenness of the canyons and fields as far as the eye can see. The exuberant Atlantic Forest with Araucaria forests and a very rich fauna make these walks an exercise in peace and incredible reconnection.

Itinerary

Itaimbezinho Canyon

We will do two trails in the Aparados da Serra National Park: the Cotovelo Trail and the Vértice Trail. On the first trail we will see the canyon walls, which reach up to 720m in height, the Rio do Boi and we will walk along a trail inside the Atlantic Forest with Araucaria Forest. After we return, we will start the Vértice Trail, where we will see the Véu de Noiva waterfall and the Andorinhas waterfall. The degree of difficulty of the trails is small and in this park we will walk 7.5 km. The park has a good structure of toilets and a small snack bar where you can buy drinks and small snacks.

Fortaleza Canyon

In Serra Geral National Park, we will take the Fortaleza Mirante Trail, from where we will see the Atlantic Ocean and some of the cities on the north coast of Rio Grande do Sul and the coast of Santa Catarina. The walls of Fortaleza reach approximately 900m in height and the beauty of Campos de Cima da Serra that form the edge of the Canyon, in contrast to the depth and grandeur of the Canyon, form a stunningly beautiful landscape. The walk has a small degree of difficulty and the trail is about 2km away. The Park has restrooms and a kiosk for the purchase of drinks and small snacks.

The echanted land of canyons

The three of us spent an unforgettable day with Ricardo visiting 2 canyons ( from various angles) and splendid waterfalls. Words can hardly describe the energy you can feel while walking along these trails. The ever- changing lights, the pure are, the game of sun and clouds add to the dream- like beauty of the parks. Ricardo is a lovely person, a friendly and engaging tour leader. Having worked in tourism for decades, I appreciate a highly professional colleague when I meet one. The day trip has been the highlight of our stay in Rio Grande do Sol. His tours are highly recommended!
