We met Luca at the meeting point which was easy to find. We then went to studio to see how they made the statues by hand. Then off towards the top of the mountain. It was amazing to see all the marble. The quarry was the most amazing experience. You can’t imagine how large it is. We drove around through it. Luca was a great guide. He’s very knowledgeable and gregarious. Highly recommend it as it is something completely different.

Terrific marble mine tour

Heike, our tour guide, was fabulous! She was full of wonderful insights and information about the industry and processes . We really were not prepared for such a great experience. Plus, the ride up to the mine was thrilling ( not for height averse people). Do not miss this!

Amazing trip up into the Carrara quarries!

We signed up for the private tour of the Carrara quarries, and we’re driven up into the heart of the stone cutting area. Although we had a car and guide to ourselves while driving, the tour was given to 3 vehicles full of travelers. The 2 guides were very knowledgeable about the stone cutting process and had unbelievable access to the active quarries. We highly recommend this excursion! We do have a word of advice for the guides: given the active nature of the work going on around us, a few words of introduction and advice about safety, before leaving the meeting place, would have been helpful. We had no idea what to expect, and therefore there was some confusion among the group about expectations.
