Overview

The West of the island is one of the most impressive ones. You really don't want to miss all the sites around here or rush through them. The West is worth a full day of exploring on its own. The best spots for views of the caldera and lakes are off the main road, and finding them is not easy. This experience includes them all, and you are only able to do this in a half day with the help of a local. We will see Sete Cidades lakes, from down/up the mountain, and also the best views for Santiago, Canário and Empadadas lakes, as well as the epic Grota do Inferno. We will follow to the darkest sand beach in the island, and dazzling natural pools, in Mosteiros. If its Summer time you can have a refreshing swim on the clear waters or save it for the open sea thermal pool, heated by the breath of the volcano during low tide, at Ferraria. Finish by visiting the king of the island at the Pineapple Plantation!

Best tour guide on the island!

Carlos was an amazing guide!!! He arrived on time, and was a wellspring of information. We discussed dozens of topics covering history, geology, population, politics, flora and fauna, and any other topic we proposed. What an educational, informative, and delightful tour. He adapted the schedule to our preferences and made us feel completely at home. I recommend his tour without reservation.

This exceptional tour is a day-full of OMG views and authentically-local interactions. Best-ever guide RITA — who lives in the crater — took us to heart as she showed us the jaw-dropping views and verdant wonderland that is western São Miguel. Rita pickedup my wife and I right at our cruise ship’s dock. Then, for about six delightful hours Rita regaled us with the island’s history, AND gave us a native’s detailed perspective into life on the island. Start-to-finish, this was an excellent tour with world-class guideship by Rita, certainly among the best my wife and I have had in over forty years of travel. HIGHEST marks!

My husband and I spent a wonderful day with our guide Rita. She was so knowledgeable and engaging that she really made our visit to the Azores special. We toured the western part of the island, driving through her home town and learning about the customs of the people of her village and the island. The scenery was spectacular!
