Overview

PLEASE NOTE THAT START TIMES FOR EACH WALK ARE DIFFERENT DUE TO THE TIDES, AND NOT AT 02:30am (as mentioned by tripadvisor) The route across the sands at low tide is atmospheric, evoking the time of Saxon Kings and Celtic Priests. We are likely to see and hear Grey seals as they bask on the sands. You will hear stories dating back to Roman times and can begin to imagine early pilgrims making the crossing to pay their respects to St Aidan and St Cuthbert. Holy Island is a special place and the best way to approach it is across the sands - walking barefoot if you want to get the most from your experience! The walk is one-way to the island, returning to the start point in my vehicle after we have spent some free time on Holy Island.

Itinerary

  • Lindisfarne Priory

    We will be able to take in a panoramic view of the Priory from the rocky outcrop on the island. There is also the chance to explore the village and purchase refreshments.

  • Lindisfarne Castle (Pass By)

    We will see the castle from a distance. There will not be time to make a visit to view

  • Holy Island

    The walk across the sands brings us to Holy Island

    30 minutes

Ray conducted a very interesting pilgrims walk. Most enjoyable to walk barefoot as the pilgrims would have walked. His knowledge of Holy Island was amazing,

The Way Of The Saints

All the reviews recommended barefoot and they were right. I’m 60+ with a few issues but I made it. Ray split the 4 miles with stops of 10 minute bursts of history. Our group gelled well and chatted together all the way. Ray drove back, after we had a sneaky drink in the pub. I loved it.

Excellent, interesting and great fun

I had wanted to walk across the sand to Holy Island from being a child. Northumbria Heritage made the journey magical! Ray told us the stories of Cuthbert, Aidan, Bede and Edwin. We walked from pole to pole, always safe, always at the best pace for the group. I highly recommend this trip Ruth

Fabulous Pilgrims Path walk to Holy Island

A fantastic walk with an excellent guide. Ray was very informative as we walked the Pilgrims Path and the view were stunning. We stopped often for stories and to learn about the history of Holy Island and the surrounding areas. The group even sang happy birthday to my friend as this was a gift for her, which was lovely. We walked bare foot and are so pleased we did. It does get a little slippy in some places but otherwise a brilliant experience. We then spent time on Holy Island and had lovely food at the Ship Inn before being driven back across by Ray. A memory to treasure!
