I have probably been on dozens of food tours, and this was perhaps the best I've ever done, thanks to my awesome guide, Trey. By chance, I ended up as his only guest, so he tailored the plan accordingly, taking me to some of his favorite hole-in-the-wall places that could not have accommodated a larger group.
The evening was slow paced and relaxed, although I did not feel like I was missing out on anything. In fact, I got to experience much more than I expected. A lot of tours promise to take you to places you would not normally find on your own, but this one really delivered on that promise.
The food and drinks were both excellent (the okonomiyaki was better than the one I had in Hiroshima, which is known for its okonomiyaki, and the makkori was a delicious discovery). However, what really set this food tour apart was the local people I got to meet and talk with, from the restaurant/bar owners to the patrons, many of whom Trey knew personally. They were all super friendly, often funny, and in some cases eccentric. I will keep the stories to myself, but I will not soon forget them.
Trey is also a great guy with some interesting stories of his own. I really enjoyed my time with him, and I can confidently say that you will as well. So do not hesitate to request him as your guide -- you will be very glad you did!!
