A true "backstreet" experience with a great guide!!

I have probably been on dozens of food tours, and this was perhaps the best I've ever done, thanks to my awesome guide, Trey. By chance, I ended up as his only guest, so he tailored the plan accordingly, taking me to some of his favorite hole-in-the-wall places that could not have accommodated a larger group. The evening was slow paced and relaxed, although I did not feel like I was missing out on anything. In fact, I got to experience much more than I expected. A lot of tours promise to take you to places you would not normally find on your own, but this one really delivered on that promise. The food and drinks were both excellent (the okonomiyaki was better than the one I had in Hiroshima, which is known for its okonomiyaki, and the makkori was a delicious discovery). However, what really set this food tour apart was the local people I got to meet and talk with, from the restaurant/bar owners to the patrons, many of whom Trey knew personally. They were all super friendly, often funny, and in some cases eccentric. I will keep the stories to myself, but I will not soon forget them. Trey is also a great guy with some interesting stories of his own. I really enjoyed my time with him, and I can confidently say that you will as well. So do not hesitate to request him as your guide -- you will be very glad you did!!

Absolutely fantastic tour. Paul was a great guide, very knowledgeable and fun. Shared lots of cool info as we explored the city and went into little bars you'd never think of entering yourself. 100% would recommend!

Trey was amazing and the group I was with was epic. Try went above and beyond and really made sure everyone had a good night. I would recommend him to anyone wanting this tour he is definitely the 1 not the 2!

Fantastic food and drink experience!

This was so much fun! Our guide, Paul, was very knowledgeable and friendly. We had two sit-down food stops and at each place had about 7 items to try. We also stopped at two other food stalls to get specific items from those vendors, and went to two bars as well. One bar was a "members only" bar and that was one of the most unique experiences! Paul provided drink recommendations at each place but also gave several alternative options for people to choose from. And, I am a vegetarian and he was able to ensure I had plenty to eat as well without compromising anyone else's experience. I greatly appreciated his attention to my dietary restriction and that he was able to find me so much to try. We'd definitely do this again and highly recommend this tour and Paul specifically.

Making Osaka Nightlife Accessible and Fun

We had an incredible time on our Osaka night tour with Rodney as our guide. Rodney’s spent 20 years in Japan and you can tell - he was a total font of knowledge and could answer anything we threw at him. He also did an awesome job making sure everyone in our group (we had folks from Switzerland, Australia, and the US) got to participate and enjoy themselves. One thing that really stood out was Rodney’s relationships with the neighborhood locals. He was so respectful, and in turn, the bar owners genuinely welcomed us, even in those tiny bars that somehow fit 8-10 people! We tried all the Osaka specialties (food and drinks), and there was more than enough. No chance anyone went home hungry. What really made the night, though, was what happened after the “official” end of the tour. Rodney offered to take us to a couple more spots (just paying for our own cheap drinks), and the whole group happily tagged along for a few more hours. That says everything about how much fun we were having. Rodney was super flexible, too. We were curious about those mysterious “upstairs” bars in Osaka, and he ended up taking us to a quirky Halloween-themed place we never would have found (or felt brave enough to walk into) on our own. I’ve tried and failed to crack Japanese nightlife before, but Rodney not only made it accessible, he did it in a way that locals appreciated too. Highly, highly recommend this tour!
