Overview

The Old Goa Heritage Walk revisits some of the most fascinating facts during Portuguese rule. When Old Goa was Goa’s former capital city, it was a thriving city even during prior to Portuguese times. It was the capital of the Bahmani Sultan Adil Shah empire. The Portuguese arrived here in 1510 under their commander Afonso de Albuquerque, and captured the city from Adil Shah, the ruler of the Bijapur Kingdom. They came to the East in search of trade and to eventually spread Christianity. In our Old Goa Heritage Walk, explore some of the most historically significant buildings. Old Goa is a World Heritage site housing some of most grandest and oldest churches in the region.

An engaging evening in Velga Goa

A highly engaging and informative walk weaved through the churches of Velha Goa with our guide Mrs. Vimla D'Souza. A very warm person who was patient and took everyone along. I have been to the same churches earlier but it was a much more involving experience with all the stories and anecdotes. Highly recommended!

This is a very unique tour of Old Goa and visiting the different Chruches. Our Guide Vimala was excellent and was very knowledgeable about the history and the area of Old Goa. She spent a lot of time annwering our questions patiently and we were very pleased with the length and the pace of this walking tour.

I would highly recommend this guided walk round Old Goa. My guide - Vimala De Souza - made the walk fun, interesting and relaxed. There was a huge amount of fascinating information about the country, area, and churches we visited. The churches are spectacular, all with their own story. Vimala has added some really nice touches to the walk too, which are really thoughtful. I loved it, and would recommend it.
