The guide took me to a WONDERFUL indigenous animal sanctuary where we had a personal guide. There was a wide assortment of animals and the guide was prepared to discuss the original habitat, life span, and characteristics of each species. I was so impressed, I made a donation which I am sure help the sanctuary attract more visitors and with that resource thereby improve the lives of animals still in the wild.
This was a side trip added to a wide tour of Lelongwe which included the city’s history. I particularly appreciated the stops at the tomb of the first President and the tower honoring soldiers who were killed in the service.
The tour lasted about six hours and we spent A LOT of time on the road because of the heavy traffic. My guide took advantage of what could have been wasted time by discussing the educational system, family life styles and the wide range of religions which are established here.
