Here you will discover a winery to taste Cretan indigenous varieties with divine aromas and flavors. Enchanted by the Cretan land, its history, and its products, it is impossible not to visit the magical village of Ano Archanes with its beautiful streets and old houses. One of the few places visited by the current King of England Charles. A magical place to enjoy a local meal cooked with much love and care.

Itinerary

The Palace of Knossos

The Minoan palace is the main place to visit in Knossos (or Knossos), an important city in antiquity, with continuous life from the Neolithic years to the 5th century. It is built on the hill of Kefala, with easy access to the sea and the interior of Crete. According to tradition, it was the seat of the wise king Minos. Fascinating myths, of the Labyrinth with the Minotaur and of Daedalus with Icarus, are connected with the palace of Knossos. Admission fee is not included (15.00 Euros / Person)

Agia Irini (Pass By)

In the area of Agia Irini at Spilia there is the largest of the aqueduct bridges built in Crete in order to solve the water shortage problem of the Grand Castle (today's Heraklion). Through this water bridge built during the Egyptian occupation (1830-40) the water was transferred from the Fountana spring in Kounavi and from the Miliaras spring in Skalani, to the center of Heraklion, after it had been merged with the water coming through the Venetian aqueduct of Morozini. The reason for the construction was the identification by the Egyptians of the ancient Roman aqueduct of Knossos, with an underground tunnel 1150m long, which was cleaned, opened and restored. The east entrance of the tunnel survives in excellent condition, while the west is blocked by soil. The area is ideal for a walk, as in the adjacent church of Agia Irini (Saint Irene) there is a very beautiful park with trees and benches.

It's a delightful journey that sharpens the senses and evokes emotions. That's why it requires you to take the time to savor it as it deserves. At Titakis Winery, the visitor has the opportunity to taste the wines of the winery in the tasting room and to see the areas where the wine is vinified and bottled. Our tasting program consists of tasting 5 indigenous varieties.

Archanes

Arriving at the beautiful square of Archanes village. In a unique environment at the center of the village surrounded by tall trees and flowers, located at the foot of mountain Giouhtas. You will enjoy Cretan hospitality at its best by having lunch at one of the most know taverns. An interesting combination of a tavern and little shop in which you can taste on your own different olive oils, honey, and locally produced marmalades. Lunch consists of a salad, starter, main course, and dessert. A bottle of water, a glass of wine each, and a small carafe of raki are also included.

Our Heraklion Journey

Yanni and Angela were fantastic hosts, we had an amazing day being escorted around Heraklion, first to Knossos Palace, then wine tasting at Titakis Winery, with a great lunch of home oozed food nearby. The final stop was an Olive mill where we were shown the olive oil making process from tree to finished product with tasting at the end, a brilliant experience not to be missed.
