Overview

The activity includes a visit to Loulé's municipal market, one of the liveliest in the Algarve, the purchase of ingredients, and a private cooking lesson at the chef's house, a beautiful town house decorated with the exquisite flair of Paula, a passionate cook and master in the art of hosting. You will discover the unique flavours of Algarvian cuisine: fresh and crisp vegetables, ripe fruit, fresh cheese, 'chouriços' and an stunning variety of fish and seafood. Learn how to cook a mouth-watering Cataplana of fish and how to prepare simple and tasty 'Petiscos', traditional appetisers that you can easily replicate at home.Between a glass of wine, a 'petisco' and a chat, it will soon be time to sit around the table and unwind like at home! This experience is aimed at passionate travelers and foodies who want to delve deeper into local culture and gastronomy. It lies somewhere between a cooking class and a cooking tutorial: you can put your hands to work, or simply watch Paula cook!

Itinerary

This is part market tour and part cooking class. We will shop the local fresh ingredients at the market and we'll head to the chef's private home to cook together with Paula, a professional and an amazing story teller. She knows everyone at the market, frequenting the market since she was a child. Paula has a great food story, as well as a great attachment to Algarvian cuisine that is her home cooking. Paula's feminine and elegant touch adds something truly exceptional to a cooking class, where you enjoy talking and tasting the delicacies cooked but also feel the charm of true Algarvian hospitality.

Amazing food and culture experience

Hands down the best experience in the Algarve. We did the market tour and cooking in her home and we had the best day. We were a group of 6 from 8 years old to 75 years old. Paula is a lovely woman with such a kind, inviting and approachable demeanor. And the food!!!!! She guides you through selections at the market then takes them to her traditional and beautiful home to prepare multiple courses that she encourages you to make at home by involving you in the process as much or as little as you like. She offers wine aplenty and spends so much time with you. A truly delightful woman who loves sharing her culture!

Algarvian Cookery Experience

Paula is a wonderful advocate for traditional Algarvian cuisine - all made with locally sourced ingredients. The recipes are all relatively simple but delicious and we made about seven courses, based on food we selected together at Loule market. Do not eat breakfast or anything else before this experience since waddled home. With two 17 year olds in tow who cook little at home, it was great to see them create some fabulous dishes under Paula’s supervision. Highly recommend this experience.

A great foodie / cultural exposé

A truly fantastic experience. We met Paula by the market in Loulé, And then went around the market with her, learning all about the traditional foods and ingredients of the Algarve. She taught us a great deal about seafood and how to choose it whilst at the market. We Then went to home, a very short walk away. Her home is beautiful and really worth seeing on its own. We then spent the next few hours in her kitchen, and Paula cooked / taught us how to cook several local dishes - Cataplana, cuttlefish, cockles and other yummy dishes. We were also treated to a delicious bottle of red wine too. We absolutely loved everything about this - it’s really worth doing.

A Taste of Portugal

It was a perfect day! We started out meeting at the market. Paula explained the Portuguese culture and cuisine. She selected items with us that we would help cook in her home. Opening her home gave us a real experience of the Portuguese people and decorum. The food was amazing and including many courses. Paula is down to earth and we also shared good conversation around the table. This was a surprise gift from my daughters for mother ‘s day. A gift I won’t forget! I was stuffed! Highly recommend this experience.

The experience was like cooking with someone you have known for years. Paula decides on the menu after meeting you and talking about food you enjoy as you stroll through the market. Paula shares story's of Loule's history and her history in Loule. She shares stories of the food she cooks us which includes recipes that we can create at home. Paula's home is warm and comfortable and made for entertaining. It was a magical experience.
