It's known for being the most arid in the region, with little rain in the summer, and average high temperatures of over 100 °F (38 °C) in the summer. The desert also has the lowest point in the United States, Badwater Basin in Death Valley, which is 282 feet below sea level, while the Panamint Mountains rise to over 11,000 feet above sea level.
