Overview

The Painted Ladies are known worldwide from photos, guidebooks, film and TV shows such as "Full House". For locals, they are a cherished symbol of our city and our history. These are all private homes and are rarely open for viewing. The blue painted lady is one of the most original and preserved of the seven homes in this row. The interior reflects almost 174 years of this family's history in the city. It is not a recreation of an 1890s home, nor is it the tour meant as an inspiration for home décor or design. We hope guests find the period furnishings and paintings harmonious and the stories engaging.

  • This tour is not a good fit for children. Further, all guests must be fully vacinated.
  • Sorry, we are unable to admit latecomers. (We can wait no more than 5 minutes).

  • Visitors must be able to do about 45 stairs in the one hour. Additionally, there are not always places to sit. Choose accordingly by your ability. This is a private home.

The homeowner guiding the tour is such a sweet and passionate man! He's very attached to his family home and uses the tour money to keep up the original look of the interior. Its such a unique and personal experience!

A WEALTH OF HISTORY & INFORMATION

Extremely informative and in-depth account of the houses that make up the Painted Ladies, the area and its rise, fall and rise again through the decades - and that was just the preamble on the steps of the Blue Painted Lady owned by George Horsfall! Very interesting to see inside the house, particularly as is retains most of its original Victorian features. George does a wonderful job relating the information pertaining to this particular house and his family history. Hopefully he will set up a foundation to ensure that the house, its contents and history are preserved and passed on to future visitors forever.

A must see when in SF!
