Overview

Private and You decide what time to end the tour! According to the defined history the Portuguese were the first to discover the Azores. It was discovered in the year 1427, a total of 591 years a go. What you will see on this tour are much older structures with more of 1000 years located in several points of the Island that do not belong to the Portuguese. These structures belong to civilizations Megalithic e Phoenicians. This last one was discovered by us and explored by one team from the National Geographic. Best tour of Terceira!

I was so lucky to find this excellent archeology tour of Terceira with Juca of Azores Expeditions. He is a learned, fun, and deeply generous-hearted guide. The pictographs and rock carvings in the megalithic complex are not to be missed! Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful Archeology day tour with our guide Juca. It was very interesting to hear a different story about the history of these beautiful islands.

Incredible Archaeological Tour!

Juca is a wonderful storyteller. This tour was as if you were watching a Netflix documentary about stone age history, but were able to ask questions to the director in real-time. Juca is an archaeologist and geologist who works with the University. He takes you to places where there is clear evidence that there were a people who lived on the island of Terceira before the Portuguese had found it. He will show you things like stone shelters, caves, places for ritual ceremonies, water gathering devices. It is truly incredible. I'll note that he acknowledges when something isn't certain. He'll never tell you what to believe, but he gives evidence and lets you come to your own conclusion. The lunch meal was also one of the best meals my wife and I had on the island. Take this tour!!

This was a fantastic tour to so many places we would never, never have discovered on our own. Really thought provoking about pre-Portuguese activity on the island! There were great opportunities for photos. Juca took some of them for us and some of us and showed us some photo tricks too. He is really knowledgeable and says if he doesn’t know something so you have a lot of confidence in what he does say. He is very personable and funny, very helpful and flexible with accommodating our varied comfort levels. We highly recommend him and will book another tour the next time we’re here!
