Overview

The after dark feeding tour is an experience that is unique to Devils@Cradle. This tour provides an unforgettable experience, and the opportunity to observe these extraordinary animals whilst one of our keepers gives you a greater understanding of them, and details the conservation work being undertaken within the facility. Devils and quolls are primarily nocturnal species, therefore are far more active at night, and the introduction of food generally stimulates some fierce competition between them. We use environmentally sensitive lighting and focus on the social interactions and feeding habits of these unique carnivores, allowing visitors a rare up close opportunity of seeing Tasmanian devils in a group feeding situation - quite a spectacular sight!

Devils@Cradle is located approximately 1km past the Cradle Mountain Visitor Information Centre as you head towards Cradle Mountain.

Itinerary

  • Devils at Cradle

    Guests are able to arrive prior to the tour start time and self-guide within the sanctuary until the commencement of the tour. The after dark feeding tour begins with a brief introduction to the three species managed within the sanctuary on our main viewing deck. Followed by the larger part of the tour, involving a guided walk outside, within the sanctuary itself. The tour guide will enter the enclosures and feed a number of these animals whilst interpreting their behaviour and discussing biology, threats and conservation; answering any questions visitors may have.

Devil of a good tour

It was a cold January evening for the 8:30 PM visit but it was so worth it. The guide, Sarah, was full of information and seeing the devils up close was an experience to remember. They also have different types of quolls. I learned a lot and got some good photos. The size of the group meant that sometimes it was hard to get photos, and I am short. There is a small gift shop as well.

We saw Tasmanian Devils and Quolls and the guide gave an informative talk. I thought this was worth the entry fee, as it's hard to see these in the wild.

Fantastic program saving Endangered Species

Fantastic conservation breeding program, allowing you to view up close the endangered Tasmanian Devils, and Quolls. Were able to watch these animals being fed and learn about their habitats, feeding, and breeding. Guide was extremely knowledgeable and it was a great opportunity for my kids to learn from the past. Support this business that is doing a awesome job to conserve animals in risk of not being around for future generations.
