Lights Over Lapland is a great company. Easy to book with. Responded to inquiries. Provided good information with all details needed for trip and arranged everything. Trip was seamless from beginning to end. Abisko touriststation is lovely. With wonderful views and great food. Best part of trip was our guide Sara who went out of her way to get us the best aurora viewing possible. She was flexible and made sure we saw the best of the lights. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly. Beyond expectations!
The tour was better than expected, probably the best excursion we did, mainly because the guide, Ylva Sarri, was very enthusiastic and I highly recommend her, especially as she is Sami so she spoke from the heart. The village is set up for tourists but tastily done. The Ice Hotel is a marvel, it was a bit of a rush to see everything and all the sculptures though.
Wonderful experience in the mine with the Sauna Ritual. The mine itself is impressive, you walk down more then 80 meters of this disused mine with deepest point over 1000 meters, but so the work which in recent days was done by the current team in order to make the mine visitable and in order to install the sauna. Amy and her colleague (of whom I unfortunately forgot the name) where two excellent story tellers, explained everything about the mine, Swedish mining business and about the sauna. All seemed at every point very safe. The sauna is then something unique. 3 x 15 minutes (with nice stories and rituals explained during the sessions) and in between some delicious local food. The mine itself is not too cold, around 5 degrees, but after the sauna and the cold bath it was nice to have some extra warm clothes.
Definitely highly recommend this tour! Extremely impressed by the lengths this company will go to find northern lights. They will drive as far as Norway if needed to find the lights! The forecast was looking very poor for our tour and they gave us the option to cancel for a full refund recognizing that our chances of seeing the aurora would be low. We decided to still give it a try and were very lucky that we had an incredible view of the lights! In addition to chasing for aurora, Robin gave lots of information about the region and even prepared a campfire. And huge bonus of getting digital copies of all of the guide's photos at the end. Amazing tour!
We visited Stockholm primarily to see The Vasa Wreck but we also wanted to see some of Swedens culture and history, particularly their Vikings so we chose this tour which just happened to fall on my 50th birthday. Gabriel, our tour guide is one of the most intelligent, interesting and passionate men I’ve ever met. I’ve had a fantastic day, full of education and adventure. Plus, the company paid for drinks and cakes for my whole family to celebrate my birthday. Thank you for a special day Gabriel!
Rozie gave us a fascinating overview of Swedish culture and food. We were able to ask any questions without hesitation, so we had great discussions about fashion, the Swedish justice system, housing and more. The food was very good, enhanced by her background in the food industry. Thank you, Rozie, for a great afternoon.
Our guide (sorry, forgot her name) was excellent; passionate, energetic, helpful, considerate of the needs of the group, and knowledgeable. We never felt unsafe and truly enjoyed the entire experience. Every single staff member was helpful, polite and positive. My partner has problems with cold fingers and one of the staff jumped in to provide her hand warmers which made the difference in the whole experience for her.
On the night of February 15, 2025, we purchased an expensive tour through TripAdvisor from “Guided Northern Lights Tour at Kiruna” to see the Northern Lights in Abisko. Despite the live webcams in Abisko showing cloudy skies and snowfall, we were taken on the tour. Unsurprisingly, we saw nothing and had to endure a total of four hours of night travel before returning. This tour should have been canceled due to poor weather conditions, as is the standard practice worldwide.
The journey from Stockholm Västerås Airport was smooth and pleasant, but it didn’t start as scheduled. We departed 40 minutes later than planned, as the driver waited for all passengers to clear passport control. Claiming that the bus is the fastest option is misleading—it took me 2 hours and 30 minutes, whereas the website advertised a travel time of 1 hour and 20 minutes. While the bus is a good idea, the timetable is highly unreliable.
When we showed up, the guide announced she was going to end the tour 1 hour to 45 minutes early and sure enough she did regardless of her 45 guests. She really didn’t share much history about the buildings - overall a waste of money. Recommend finding a different tour from a guide who cares and dresses appropriately for the conditions.
