Kevin was great to work with when setting up the adapted private tour for our group of 17. We were able to combine the Folklore and Food Tours for a lovely afternoon getting to know Reykjavik. Oli was a great tour guide, incredibly knowledgable and delightful to talk to. We really enjoyed getting to know him and hearing about a variety of experiences and his folklore knowledge.
We were informed the morning before that our meeting time was pushed forward an hour, which made us rush from the airport to our meeting place. We made it in time to be picked up and rushed to another meeting place to change transports. Our driver was texting, making and accepting cell phone calls, and checking his emails AS HE WAS DRIVING US DOWN THE BUSY ROADS!!! Sooooo so scary. One gal was taking pictures of this behavior and made a video, while I emailed the company to let them know we were terrified. He received another phone call and put his phone down. After that it was an excellent tour!! We were able to see so many interesting sites, and even a few extra that were not on our list to be seen. Our driver was very informative and interesting.
Chances of seeing the a good display of the northern lights on any one night are always going to be poor. I love boats, I love the sea, I love seeing cities at night from the water, so I booked the boat tour on the grounds I'd have a lot of fun whether I saw the lights or not, unlike a coach trip. Technically the lights were there, although nobody could actually see them. Some people were able to pick them up on their cameras. But it was a lovely evening to be out, looking at the stars and Reykjavik all aglow. The overalls provided by Special Tours were warm enough to stand the cold wind out on deck, and the pick up service from my hotel was on time and flawless.
I went on a solo tour with we road and did the snorkeling at silfra fissure which was an amazing experience. We had Dora as a guide and she was spot on healed the less confident in the group to feel safe and enjoy the experience would recommend this to anyone.
We planned a visit here as had thought it would be an exciting place to visit with our daughter. The models are excellent but it felt like a lot of money for the time spent (around 45 minutes). There is a lot of information to take in from the information boards but it is not interactive. Unfortunately we had missed the guided tour (didn't see this listed on the website beforehand but perhaps I missed this). There was an audio guide but you had to download it on the phone so wasn't going to work as we had no headphones. I think the venue should look at providing audio guides with headsets for the price. There was a video which we tried to watch but my daughter found it upsetting as it was talking about whales which were stranded and most died. Really aimed at adults, like a wildlife documentary. There was a very small basic childs play area, a couple of computers which my child had a go on and a cafe. Nice toilets.
Disappointed that our tour was cancelled 6.5 hours in advance due to unfavorable weather conditions. Because Iceland is always stating the weather changes frequently and based on experience the previous day traveling to the south coast, we witnessed that first hand. Had hoped that the excursion would have been in search of locations that had clear viewing, but not to be. Viator continued to send me notices- basically that tour was still happening despite tour operator cancelling and communicating through their app. I was offered another day (if availability) but it was our last night in Iceland. Tour operator has requested a refund and hopefully Viator will agree. Tip: If you’re traveling multiple evenings, book first night so you have options. This was a 60th birthday bucket list and hope we have better luck in Finland!
