Overview

The Kicking Horse trip includes all of the biggest & best rapids on the river. This unforgettable journey begins calmly, where you get familiar with rafting and find out fun facts about the river as you take in the views of the scenic upper section. Then, it’s onto the mighty rapids the Kicking Horse is famous for! As the canyon narrows, the waves build, drenching rafters in continuous class 4 rapids. We provide all the necessary rafting equipment, including wetsuits, shoes, helmet and life jackets and we have lots of warm gear so you will always be warm and comfortable.

Itinerary

Your 20 km journey on the mighty Kicking Horse River has it all- spectacular scenery and thrilling white water. At Hydra we always raft our guests down both sections of the river, making this trip perfect for first-time and experienced rafters alike. We start in the calmer and scenic class one and then hit the adrenaline pumping class fours. The mild river section allows our guests time to familiarize themselves with the raft, paddling and guide’s commands (and go for a refreshing dip in the river) before hitting the famous and exhilarating bigger rapids. The Hydra difference - we have some off the most experienced (and entertaining) guides on the river and our beautiful rafting base (with hot showers and snacks for purchase) is located right next to the river. So, more time on the river and less time sitting in a bus. This is the best trip on the river. Hands down.

Sunday funday paddle

What an amazing experience. We went out near the end of the season. We were in the smaller boats as the river was low to " add to the fun" It was a 19km paddle down river through some stunning scenery and a combination of class 1 to 4 rapids. Class 1 wasn't scary. Class 2 wasn't bad. Fabien our pilot was excellent. He briefed us on what he wanted to do and was clear and concise when he wanted us to do it. It was a memorable day even if my arms and shoulders hurt the next day. Everyone got wet in a fun way. Fabien made sure of that !! It was a fantastic experience and I would recommend you to give it a go if you get the chance. Slight downside is pay attention to directions. We didn't and ended up driving way past it only to have to come back !! Entirely our fault.

Exhilarating amidst amazing scenery

What an amazing afternoon. We were well briefed, even that part was fun thanks to the humour of the guide explaining. And then we were off to the river with Vern. Cannot commend him enough. He clearly knows the river and how to keep everyone safe and yet have an amazing time. Compared to other rafting adventures we did, we found this both exciting and not tiring at all. I would recommend them hands down. Oh and the view the whole time - simply breath taking. Go for it. Well worth the money spent and don’t forget to get the pics at the end. For an extra $30 we got 41 digital photos of our experience that totally captured the fun we had.

Really friendly, well organised and professional. Vern was great fun, told us interesting facts and stories about the river and the surrounding area. He also took us through lots of drills on the raft such as changing sides, which added to the ride down river and allowed us to take a safe and very refreshing dip in the river to practice getting back on the raft , which was very funny and helped to meet the other members in the raft . Vern made sure everybody was included and having a great time.

Lovely place for whitewater rafting … stunning scenery and varied ware conditions. Good briefing on safety and staff expertise obvious. Our raft suffered a tear and this was dealt with by great team work. Thank you!
