Overview

This is a very unique tour and not to be missed. Riding from the mountain 185m down the sand dunes to the beach on a 6km incredible adventure. Explore the Walker Bay Nature Reserve with me and learn about the animals, dune structure, fauna as well as watching Whales as we ride during Whale Season. This is a very personal experience with small groups exploring the dunes in some of the most incredible landscapes in the world.

Meeting points

You will stop at the Roundhouse which is a large 3 story building with Thatch roof. There is a sign at the front of the building and you will see the bikes loaded

This activity ends back at the meeting point.

Itinerary

(Approx. 120 minutes from start to finish) This is the ultimate ride from near Grootbos nature reserve down the mountain to the top of the Sand Dunes. The trail to the dunes is special, running on a narrow sandy horse trail through the Fynbos. When reaching the dunes you will be blown away with the views after 1km. I will brief you on how to ride down the dunes, slalom skiing and riding down the steep dunes on the way down to the beach. The dune face may feel impossible and dangerous to do but the ride is in fact very controlled, and the sand will slow the bike down. What your mind tells you is impossible will in fact be very enjoyable and easy. All the big dunes have options around so if you are not sure, there is an easy route all the way down when on the dunes. We will look out for Animal tracks and learn about the animals and fauna on the Dunes. This is excellent fun on a bike and not too difficult to do as long as you can ride a bike you will love this. From the dunes there is a 4x4 path we take down to the beach (10th Best uncrowded beach in the world) where we will be met by the vehicle.

A very nice trip on the fatbike through a beautifull landscape! Crossing over large dunes and ending on an empty beach. The light was amazing! Dave was so funny and enthousiast and give all information about the animals and plants. Great stories and this man makes the trip worth it!

This is a must do if you are in the area! Even as an inexperienced cyclist, I had a wonderful time and easily got the hang of the fat bike. Dave is an exceptional guide, full of wonderful stories and anecdotes, he is clearly passionate about his job and the area. The dunes and the fynbos are so unique to this area, it was a great way to see it and to see all the gorgeous views of the coast. We loved this experience and highly recommend it to all visitors to this side of the Cape!

We had the most amazing time w/ Dave on the Fatbikes! The tour was possible for all fitness levels and there were different challenges for each one depending on the risk you want to take ;) All the amazing stories told by Dave made the time fly by too fast. We will definetely come back once in south africa!
