We are parmesans who are wildly passionate about all the delicious food found around this world famous and historical town. During this walking tour you will experience parmesan lifestyle, visiting the places frequented by locals and immersing yourself in the street life. Booking this tour, you will experience our passion by eating traditional Parmesan and Italian food! You will discover the secrets of the worldwide famous products of this area and taste them: Parmigiano Reggiano, Parma Ham, Traditional Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, Culatello of Zibello, Lambrusco and Gelato. These are just some of the protagonists of this exciting walk! Option 1 is all inclusive. Option 2 doesn’t include tasting. You choose your own food and pay for it directly. There is no requirement to buy any of the food recommended, though our tour stops at some pretty amazing eateries so it can be hard to resist!

Meeting points

We will meet in front of "O’Bistrot" Cafe in Garibaldi Square, next to Giuseppe Garibaldi statue. The historic center of Parma is closed to traffic. The most convenient parking is the Toschi Parking. The meeting place can be easily reached on foot in 10 minutes.

Itinerary

  • Parma (Pass By)

    You will discover the old town of Parma and its unexpected and eye-catching glimpses of extraordinary artistic beauty and the most authentic Parmesan and Italian food from our favorite vendors, feeding locals for generations. We will visit a Traditional Prosciutteria, a Fresh Pasta Shop or a Grocery Store, a Tradional Bistrò, an Old Patisserie, a Sandwich Shop and an Artisanal Gelato Shop.

    We will meet in Garibaldi Square, overlooked by beautiful buildings such as the Captain’s Palace, the Town Hall and the Governor’s Palace, and also shops, restaurants and cafes which have earned the town the title of “UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy”.

    We will visit a traditional Prosciutteria to discover the gastronomic delicacies that have made the city of Parma famous in the world, Prosciutto di Parma and the tasty products of the Parma charcuterie such as Culatello di Zibello, Salame Felino, Coppa, Culaccia, Spalla Cruda and Spalla Cotta di San Secondo Parmense.

    A Fresh Pasta Shop is a must-see stop walking through the city of Parma, to learn about the ingredients of the famous Emilian homemade pasta and its different shapes, to discover the flavors of typical dishes and curious anecdotes. We will taste 2 different types of traditional Fresh Homemade Pasta.

    We will take a look at the Teatro Regio exterior, one of the most important Opera Houses in the world, where internationally renowned artists, such as Paganini, Verdi, Toscanini, Callas and Beniamino Gigli, have played, sung and worked.

  • Basilica di Santa Maria della Steccata (Madonna della Steccata) (Pass By)

    We will pass by the beautiful Santa Maria della Steccata Church, a splendid example of Renaissance architecture.

  • Palazzo della Pilotta (Pass By)

    We will visit the exterior of the Palazzo della Pilotta, built in the early Seventeenth Century by the Farnese as an imposing container for the court's services.

  • Parma

    We will taste delicious Artisanal Gelato made with the best local raw materials without natural or artificial additives. Artisanal Gelato is Healthy and Sustainable, all the ingredients are selected choosing ancient, organic and biodiverse varieties from local farmers. Only excellent products are used with an intense flavor, which reflects the traditions and culture of our territory.

Our tour guide, Cecilia, was amazing! She was very knowledgeable and able to answer any of our questions. Her knowledge of cheese, various Parma hams and the pastas of the region made for one of the best food tours I’ve had. We really enjoyed our time and her knowledge of the area as well.

We had a great experience in the tour in Parma. It exceeded my expectations. Michelle was so knowledgeable, thoroughly explaining about each and every local delicacy, to a level that impressed me as a chef. Also very approachable and with loads of patience. Strongly recommend to add that as a way of seeing beautiful Parma, when you are travelling in the area.

Food filled highlight of Parma

This tour takes you through the city centre of Parma, where food, history and of course the kind and knowledgable tour guide Roberta form the absolute highlight. After having visited Italy many times, we learned a lot about the history of food, particularly Parmigiano, Balsamico, and Prosciutto di Parma, that we did not know yet. Another highlight for me was the store with sugar coated violets. The time flew by on this extensive walk, that I would highly recommend. Hope you are hungry!

The food tour included information about and tastings of parmigiano reggiano cheese, parma ham and associated pork products, balsamic vinegar,local types of pasta and their fillings, local wines, tarts, local speciality cakes and finished with gelato. The quality of the tastings was very good. Cecilia was a knowledgeable guide and presented information in an interesting manner. She also shared stories of the city and its history as we walked. I highly recommend this tour
