We were given this wine tour as a wedding present, and I have to admit that I wasn't expecting anything special. And, boy was I surprised by the variety of wines and the care taken over the wines, but most of all by Helen and her hospitality and knowledge of the area and the history. Having her drive us around, really made the tour as we could have driven ourselves to the vineyards but having Helen do all the heavy lifting aka organising was a bonus. We were able to sit back and just enjoy the experience - and not worry about how much we could drink or how to get around.
The day began with Helen picking us up at 10am from our hotel. She then drove us to our first stop, a lovely old vineyard which produces organic and bio dynamic wines, which was followed by another tour and tasting with a tasty lunch. I won't spoil the surprise by naming the vineyards, but Helen had curated a day of wine tasting and an education in viticulture that tapped into the new way of producing wines and also the traditional - with a lot of english fizz on offer. What a wonderful way to spend a day!
I left with a new appreciation of English wines, viticulture, and a greater understanding of local history. As well as a new friend. Thank you Helen.
