Overview

Your afternoon will be well spent learning the ancient art of mosaic-making. Following an introductory lesson about the techniques of Roman mosaics; you will practise the principles of texture, composition, marble tile cutting and, to make your own piece of mosaic to take home. We are looking forward meeting you here at 2pm.

Itinerary

The workshop will begin with an introduction to Roman mosaic technique and history. Afterwards, you will practice the principles of texture, composition and marble tile cutting to create your own mosaic to take home. It is fundamental for us to teach the authentic techniques of Roman mosaic craftsmanship. Therefore, your mosaic will fulfill ancient requirements. The final result is your own personal mosaic to take home that will be approximately 7” x 5”, weighing 14 oz. This is a full immersion work experience. You are going to work in an authentic mosaic studio and handle specific tools. For safety reasons, we recommend starting this experience from 12 years on.

Language of mosaic

Out-of-this-world experience, joining mosaic artisans who have restored ancient sites and want to keep the art of mosaic alive. It felt like stepping back in time. Alex, Giulia and Giuliana are a close, fun-loving team with mind-blowing talent. They care about their art and sharing the language of mosaic with others. I would love to spend more time with them.

Unexpected Must!

I wasn't sure what to expect. My family had an extended vacation in Rome and I wanted to find something that was more than "seeing." I booked this experience hoping it was not a tourist trap. We spent eight days in Rome and this was a highlight for my family. We spent 2.5 hours learning the history of mosaics and creating our own. The staff was friendly, informative and passionate about their work. The Coliseum, Vatican, Forum and everything Rome has to offer is fantastic...but don't sleep on this experience. If your traveling party enjoys art, history or having a new experience I would definitely recommend the mosaic workshop.

Alex & Leonora ran a wonderful experience. It was educational, fun and by the end you end you felt you made good friends. The mosaic project was so fun but a serious way to begin. They provided assistance and wrapped up everyone’s art at the end. There is also so many beautiful works to admire in the studio! I will have to return ❤️
